MMS (Master Mineral Solution) was developed by Jim Humble. I had the unique opportunity to work alongside Jim for several years, a journey I share in my book Zolana. His discovery of what he initially called the “miracle mineral” began deep in the jungle while scouting for gold. Two workers fell ill with malaria, and with no medicine on hand, Jim gave them a strong dose of stabilized oxygen drops he had brought for water purification—sodium chlorite.

Remarkably, both men recovered. Encouraged, Jim continued administering the drops to others with various conditions. While results varied, he later realized that the acid in the stomach was activating the sodium chlorite into chlorine dioxide, the actual agent responsible for the healing effects. This led to the practice of pre-activating MMS using a weak acid like citric acid, lemon juice, vinegar, or hydrochloric acid (HCl).

Over time, refinements in the formula emerged. The original 1:1 ratio using 50% citric acid was effective but often harsh on sensitive stomachs. In South America, many began using a gentler 33% solution. Personally, I recommend a more natural approach using fresh lemon juice—about 5 drops of lemon per 1 drop of sodium chlorite, allowing a 5-minute wait for full activation (as opposed to the 1-minute wait with citric acid).

Some people avoid activating MMS altogether and simply mix the solution in a glass of non-metal clean water, allowing it to activate in the stomach. This helps reduce the unpleasant taste. One helpful trick? Pinch your nose while drinking and hold it for a few seconds afterward—the sense of smell is essential to taste, and this makes it easier to manage. Avoid mixing MMS with antioxidant-rich juices, as they can neutralize its effects. Chlorine-free water is best; ironically, many cities are beginning to purify their municipal water with chlorine dioxide instead of chlorine.

What makes chlorine dioxide unique is its selective oxidation: the electrical charge (voltage) is strong enough to kill pathogens and toxins, but not strong enough to harm healthy cells. This is what makes it both powerful and safe when used properly.

What About CDS?

CDS (Chlorine Dioxide Solution) is a more refined form of MMS, developed by Dr. Andreas Kalcker. Unlike MMS, which requires mixing sodium chlorite with an acid activator, CDS is made by capturing chlorine dioxide gas in distilled water. This process eliminates the need for activation and leaves virtually no taste — one of its most appealing features.

As CDS gains popularity for its purity and ease of use, it’s important to remember where it all began — with MMS — and to recognize the advantages MMS still holds. While CDS is indeed more refined, it is also more delicate. It must be kept cool and out of direct sunlight, or it will degrade rapidly – sometimes within minutes.

MMS, in its unactivated form, is far more shelf-stable and travel-friendly. You can carry it in your bag without worry and activate it when needed. Don’t have an activator? No problem — just squeeze fresh lemon juice (about 5 drops per 1 drop of sodium chlorite), wait 5 minutes, add water (preferably distilled), and drink from a glass, plastic, or ceramic cup — never metal.

Some users have even started skipping the wait time entirely, allowing the activation to occur directly in the stomach. This method reduces the unpleasant taste and highlights another benefit of MMS: its flexibility and long shelf life. In fact, sodium chlorite powder or flakes stored in a glass jar can last for decades.

CDS shines in other areas. It’s excellent for topical use and often preferred over MMS for skin applications due to its clean, residue-free nature. While MMS may leave minor residues behind, it still gets the job done.

For those with sensitive digestion, MMS can sometimes be harsh. Adjusting the activator — such as using 4% hydrochloric acid, a natural component of stomach acid — can help. Still, for people especially sensitive to taste or with delicate stomachs, CDS is often the better choice.

However, high doses of CDS can sometimes feel drying or irritating to the throat, particularly when treating serious conditions. In acute cases — like malaria — MMS may be more effective, often clearing the infection in hours, whereas CDS might take a day or two.

In the end, both MMS and CDS are powerful tools in the healing and detox toolkit. Choosing the right one depends on the situation — and your personal needs and preferences.

The Discovery of MMS and How It Works

When Jim Humble first discovered what would later be known as MMS (Master Mineral Solution), he didn’t yet realize he was working with chlorine dioxide. Deep in the jungle on a gold exploration trip, two of his workers came down with malaria. Desperate to help, Jim gave them a strong dose of stabilized oxygen drops — a solution made with sodium chlorite, originally intended to purify drinking water.

To his surprise, it worked. The men recovered quickly. Encouraged, he began giving the solution to others suffering from various illnesses. It didn’t always work — until he realized something crucial: it was the stomach acid that activated the sodium chlorite, turning it into chlorine dioxide — the actual agent responsible for the healing effect. That’s why MMS is now typically “activated” first using an acid like lemon juice, citric acid, vinegar, or HCl (hydrochloric acid).

The downside? The taste. In small doses, it’s tolerable. But in larger amounts, it can make you feel nauseous if you’re not used to it. Interestingly, people in good health often don’t find the taste as bothersome. Some prefer to avoid pre-activation altogether — they simply mix the drops in water (always in a non-metal cup), swirl gently, and drink immediately, allowing activation to occur in the stomach.

Others use tricks to bypass the taste: pinching the nose while drinking and waiting a few seconds before releasing can help, since our sense of smell plays a huge role in how we taste. Many have tried mixing it with juices or other drinks, but antioxidants can neutralize the chlorine dioxide — so plain, clean water is best. Just avoid chlorinated city water if possible.

Interestingly, some cities have begun using chlorine dioxide in municipal water treatment, as it’s considered safer and more effective than traditional chlorine. Why is it safe in the body? It comes down to voltage. Chlorine dioxide carries a high enough oxidative voltage to kill pathogens and harmful substances, but not enough to harm healthy cells. In that sense, it’s highly selective in how it detoxifies the body.

Chlorine dioxide (ClO₂), when used correctly and in highly diluted amounts (often referred to as MMS—Miracle or Master Mineral Solution), is believed by many alternative health practitioners to help detox the body by targeting and neutralizing harmful pathogens.

How Chlorine Dioxide Works for Detoxing

1. Selective Oxidation

  • Chlorine dioxide is a strong oxidizer, meaning it can break down and neutralize pathogens, such as:
    • Viruses
    • Bacteria
    • Parasites
    • Mold
  • It does this by oxidizing these unwanted organisms, disrupting their cell walls or protein structures without harming healthy human cells (in the correct dilution).

2. No Bioaccumulation

  • It breaks down into harmless salts (NaCl) and water after doing its job.
  • It doesn’t accumulate in the body, which is why it’s considered “self-limiting.”

3. Detox Effects

  • Practitioners report it may help:
    • Clean the digestive tract
    • Reduce biofilms (protective layers around pathogens)
    • Support the immune system
    • Eliminate heavy metals or toxins indirectly by killing off organisms that hold or release them

Important Considerations

  • While not FDA-approved for internal medical use, chlorine dioxide is widely utilized in hospitals, food processing facilities, water purification systems, and even some wineries.
  • Doses must be extremely low and carefully prepared (e.g., 1/2 drop in a glass of water followed by protocol).
  • Overuse or misuse can irritate the gut or cause Herxheimer reactions (detox symptoms like fatigue, nausea, or diarrhea).
  • Best used as part of a guided detox protocol

When Used Wisely…

When used with respect and knowledge, chlorine dioxide can be a powerful ally in breaking down biological toxins and restoring balance—but it’s not a magic bullet. Support with hydration, clean eating, rest, and spiritual alignment makes the detox more effective and sustainable.

What is CDH?

CDH (Chlorine Dioxide Holding Solution) is a pre-activated form of chlorine dioxide, offering a convenient alternative to mixing MMS (Master Mineral Solution) and an activator each time you need a dose.

Where MMS requires combining two components (usually sodium chlorite and an acid activator like HCl) just before use, CDH is made ahead of time, allowing the chlorine dioxide gas to dissolve into distilled water in a controlled way. This makes dosing simpler, more consistent, and often easier on the stomach.

Why Use CDH Instead of MMS?

  • ✅ Pre-mixed for convenience
No need to activate each dose—CDH is already infused with chlorine dioxide and ready to go.
  • ✅ Gentler on the body
Many people report less nausea and irritation when using CDH compared to MMS.
  • ✅ More stable dosing
Each milliliter of CDH contains a consistent amount of chlorine dioxide, making it easier to follow protocols precisely.
  • ✅ Reduced odor and taste
CDH generally has a milder smell and flavor compared to freshly mixed MMS, which some users appreciate.

How is CDH Made?

CDH is typically created by combining sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid (4%) in water, then allowing the mixture to sit in a sealed container for 12–24 hours. During this time, chlorine dioxide gas is released and held in the water—hence the name “holding solution.”

A common ratio is:
1 part MMS (sodium chlorite)
1 part activator (4% HCl)
Mixed into 24 parts distilled water
Then sealed and left to activate.

It is usually refrigerated after preparation and used within 2–3 weeks for maximum potency.

CDH vs CDS

While both CDH and CDS (Chlorine Dioxide Solution) are pre-activated, there’s a subtle difference:

  • CDS is a gas-only solution—chlorine dioxide is bubbled into distilled water with no residual sodium chlorite.
  • CDH still contains a small amount of unreacted sodium chlorite and acid, making it closer in composition to MMS, but more convenient and smoother.

Final Thoughts

CDH provides a user-friendly way to experience the potential benefits of chlorine dioxide without the daily hassle of mixing. For many on a detox or healing journey, it strikes the perfect balance between effectiveness and ease of use.

Always research, use high-purity ingredients, and consult your health intuition or a knowledgeable guide.
